Kafue, July 13, 2023
CUTS, Lusaka in partnership with Oxfam have been implementing the project titled “fiscal justice for women and girls in Africa.”
On 13th July 2023, CUTS and Oxfam Zambia held a one day town hall meeting on fiscal justice for women and girls in Kafue district at Kutwingi lodge.
The objectives of the town hall were as follows:
i) To inform the community on public finance and gender tax justice.
ii) To advocate for gender responsive taxation and budgeting.
Welcoming the participants, CUTS country director Ms Angela Mulenga said fiscal justice is about people having the space, voice and agency to exercise their rights and through this to influence and monitor fiscal systems to mobilise greater revenue and increase spending for quality public services.
Fiscal justice is a critical lever to tackle extreme inequality and reduce poverty. It is about more than technical tax or budget systems; it is about power, politics and supporting people to fight inequality.
