National Economic Symposium

On March 7, 2024, CUTS held a national economic symposium that provided an invaluable opportunity for dialogue surrounding the state of the Zambian economy, with a special emphasis on the launch of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) analysis report.

During the event, CUTS Regional Director and Board Member Sajeev Nair underscored the pivotal role of parliamentarians in public debt management and oversight. He emphasized the importance of equipping parliamentarians with the necessary knowledge and tools for effective legislative and oversight functions.

The event attracted over 60 participants, including five Members of Parliament, representatives from civil society organizations, donors, and officials from various embassies.

During the meeting, a keynote address was delivered from the Ministry of Finance, followed by engaging panel discussions, interactive Question and answer sessions. Various topics were explored, including Zambia’s current economic scenario, Zambia’s engagement with the IMF, debt restructuring strategies, and the social impact of economic policies.
