CUTS, ITC conducts 2-day training for MSMEs on AfCFTA

On 22nd and 23rd September 2022, CUTS Lusaka in partnership with the International Trade Centre conducted a two-day training for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to build their capacity on Intra-continental trade and other related opportunities.

The workshop brought together over 60 MSMEs from all over the country as part of the effort by ITC to sensitise, inform and engage the private sector in selected countries on the AfCFTA. Different participants highlighted the need for increased business competitiveness, e-Commerce opportunities, and tailored policies for women and youth to ensure the success of Zambian small businesses, particularly for women, and youth to increase competitiveness and utilize the AfCFTA to expand their business opportunities.

The training was officiated by the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Mr. Elias Mubanga who highlighted the importance of the growth trajectory and the trade prospects of the nation and the region, which have shown positive signs.

ITC deputy executive director, Ms. Dorothy Tembo said the AfCFTA agreement provides a great opportunity for Zambian businesses to export beyond COMESA and SADC. She mentioned that ITC is committed to supporting women and young entrepreneurs by equipping small businesses to trade under the AfCFTA.
