CUTS participates in the EnACT Expo 2024

November 13, 2024

CUTS International, with our partners Enact, GIZ, and European Union in Zambia, proudly participated in the EnACT Expo 2024 held on November 13, 2024. With support from our partners, CUTS is implementing, Enhanced Oversight and Monitoring of Public Procurement in Zambia’s Education Sector,” project that is addressing systemic challenges in public procurement that impact Zambia’s education sector. The project is being implemented in three districts: Lusaka, Kabwe, and Itezhi Tezhi.

Through this initiative, CUTS has developed a comprehensive legislative analysis report and a Monitoring Toolkit designed to strengthen oversight, improve advocacy, and build capacity for monitoring public procurement processes within the education sector.

Public procurement in Zambia’s education sector faces significant challenges due to high corruption risks, conflicts of interest, and inefficient use of public resources. Large transaction volumes, closed public-private interactions, and procedural complexities make public procurement vulnerable to misuse. In education, these issues have resulted in unfinished projects, wasted resources, and severe delays in construction, ultimately hindering service delivery and development.

As CUTS, we are advocating for transparency, accountability, and value for money in public procurement within Zambia’s education sector. We urge all stakeholders-government bodies, CSOs, media, and the public – to join our efforts in creating an accountable procurement system. By promoting stronger oversight and reducing corruption risks, we can drive meaningful improvements in educational infrastructure and outcomes across Zambia.
