From 15th to 17th May 2023, CUTS in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa organized a four hybrid regional meeting that started with a media training, followed by public debate forum, a CSO led advocacy and ended with a CSO capacity building workshop in Lusaka.
The meetings attracted participants from Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The workshops provided a platform for stakeholders to enhance awareness, identify key issues related to domestication of SADC vision and regional indicative strategic development plan relevant for Non State Actors in SADC project countries.
Opening the training, CUTS country director Angela Mulenga said one of the greatest threats to regional integration in Africa is the absence of information about the benefits, opportunities and challenges of regional as well as lack of citizen ownership of integration initiatives.
And representing SADC, Wazha Omphile acknowledged the gap in information and knowledge among citizens regarding SADC regional integration and emphasized the media’s role in providing accurate information and empowering citizens.
