Mazabuka, March 12, 2024
On 12th March 2024, CUTS International staff were in Mazabuka district to commemorate Youth Day at Chibolya School and subsequently visited Shimungalu Primary School. The aim was to empower youth with knowledge on climate change and engage them in proactive measures, fostering environmental education and action within the community. The event featured essay writing, drama performances, poetry, quizzes, and debates, all centered on climate change awareness and action. Highlights included a symbolic tree-planting ceremony and a tour showcasing the school’s sustainable practices.
The visit to Shimungalu Primary School aimed to establish collaborative climate-related activities despite identified challenges, emphasizing technical support for funding applications to support environmental initiatives. Both events underscored the importance of youth empowerment and stakeholder collaboration in addressing climate change. Under the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA), which is supported by the Dutch government and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Zambia, CUTS International is implementing a project titled “Transforming the most vulnerable to climate change impacts into climate-smart leaders in Zambia” in Mazabuka.
The primary objective of this project is to scale up Zambia’s climate action response while targeting vulnerable communities.
