Mazabuka, April 09-12, 2024
From l8th to 12th April, 2024, CUTS Lusaka organized the stakeholder engagement and Constituent Development Fund (CDF) training in Mazabuka town’s Shimungalu ward to empower youth with knowledge on climate change and promote collaborative climate action with the Shimungalu primary school.
CUTS staff met with Mazabuka’s Livestock and Fisheries department to discuss sustainable fishing and alternative livelihoods. Subsequent stakeholder engagement sessions were held at Shimungalu Primary School that included presentations on fish ban regulations and sustainable fishing practices, along with discussions on community challenges such as youth unemployment, high school dropout rates, and poverty. Further, focus group discussions emphasized the need for skills empowerment, bursaries, farming inputs, electricity, and youth inclusion in decision-making processes.
Under the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA), which is supported by the Dutch government and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Zambia, CUTS International is implementing a project titled “Transforming the most vulnerable to climate change impacts into climate-smart leaders in Zambia” in Mazabuka.
The primary objective of this project is to scale up Zambia’s climate action response while targeting vulnerable communities.
